Day 15 - Coober Pedy to Wilmington

An interesting day today. We didn't start too early, though the kids didn't sleep in either. A good night's sleep was really worth it though.

We visited an opal museum after packing up and checking out. The history was quite interesting, I didn't realise that the aboriginal population at Coober Pedy was largely displaced from Woomera.

Driving from Coober Pedy we came across a Royal Flying Doctor Service emergency airstrip, a section of road with the white lines for the threshold at each end.

We stopped for photos at some interesting views. Lake Hart was intersting, as what I think was the conical hill.

Another interesting thing we found was that the drivers were really friendly. It took me a while to notice, but most drivers would wave or lift a few fingers from the wheel to say g'day as they passed, so we thought that was pretty good and got into the act ourselves. All across South Australia it wasn't until we crossed into NSW that it seemed to mostly stop.

After filling up at Port Augusta I was keen to push on a little so the next day's drive wouldn't be so bad. As were driving through Wilmington we saw a little caravan park, with a few trees down and the electricity company working on the lines. I thought the park looked nice and felt right so we stayed there.

After a little hiccup with the previous owner trying to book us into a cabin that was already occupied, we moved into another cabin, and while cooking dinner we met the neighbours. Nice people, Chris and Oksana and their kids. Meeting them and watching the kids chase possums and run around the park reminded me of some of my childhood experiences.

Chloe and Jack roasted marshmallows, after Chloe confused me by calling them mushrooms, while Charles ran all over.

It turned out to be a great day and not just a boring travelling day.
